How to play the guitar
Playing the guitar for the very first time can be extremely awkward for your body, because it isn’t really a natural position. For first timers and beginners it is important to remember that the guitar takes practice and you will not be able to simply pick up the guitar and play any song you would like. Even if you do everything suggested to you here, playing guitar still might and probably will, feel awkward but should not be painful in anyway.
The height of the chair is important choice in setting down and playing the guitar. How do you know the chair your sitting on the right chair you? when sitting down to play your guitar your knees should angle upwards slightly. If you cannot find a chair allows you to do this then I would suggest maybe playing on a stool where you can place your foot on the highest foot rest available, or getting a couple of phone books and placing them under your feet. The reason we want this slight angle is because playing the guitar on your tiptoes can be extremely draining even after a short period of time.
Making sure when you play the guitar that your body position is correct is sometimes not always easy. before beginning to play the guitar ensure your back legs and arms are all in the correct position. If you do not keep your back straight you will find that you will hunch over the guitar looking at the frets you’re playing and may damage your back.
Place the guitar on your right knee, while the guitar is on your right knee place your left hand on the neck of the guitar. Keep in mind that the neck of the guitar should always be kept straight and angle upwards slowly as it gets further away from your body. When you’re a beginner it can sometimes be difficult playing the guitar without looking at the frets, by tilting the neck of the guitar towards you, you will gain visibility of the frets and be able to play much easier.
the most common error among young guitarists is the positioning of the fretting hand. positioning your left thumb on the back of the guitar neck is an important part of proper guitar technique, make sure your thumb is half way between the bottum and top of the guitar. once your thumb is that act as if you’re not pick up a hammer and your hands around it as if you were pick it up. If you follow these simple tips you should be playing guitar comfortably in days for many years to come.
